What is a batch number?
A batch number (sometimes called a "lot number" or "dye lot") is a code that identifies a group of wallpaper rolls that were printed together at the same time, using the same inks and materials.
Even when wallpaper designs look identical, small variations in colour can happen between different batches. Batch numbers help ensure that all the rolls you use on your project will match perfectly in colour and finish.
Why is matching batch numbers important?
If you use rolls from different batch numbers, you may notice:
- Slight differences in colour shade (one wall might look lighter or darker)
- Variations in finish (such as sheen or texture)
- An uneven or patchy look across your walls, especially under natural light
For a seamless, professional result, always use rolls with the same batch number on the same wall or in the same room.
Where can I find the batch number for my wallpaper?
You can find the batch number:
- On the label attached to each roll (usually near the barcode)
When you order from us, we will always ship rolls from the same batch - unless previously discussed. .What happens if you need more rolls later?
If you realise you need more wallpaper after your original order, contact us immediately.
We'll check if we still have your original batch available:
- If we do, we’ll send matching rolls.
- If we don't, we can either:
- Try to source more rolls from the same batch (if available from the supplier)
- Offer you a new batch (but there could be a slight colour variation)
Tip: Always order an extra roll just in case — it’s much easier (and safer) than trying to match a batch later!
Can I mix different batch numbers if I have to?
It’s not recommended, but if you absolutely have to:
- Use rolls from one batch on one complete wall, and the other batch on a different wall.
- Ideally, place different batches on walls that are broken by corners, windows, or doors — natural breaks help disguise any colour differences.
- Use the second batch on less visible areas, like behind doors, inside cupboards, or in shaded corners.
- Never mix batches randomly across a single wall — even minor differences are usually noticeable once installed.
Tip: If you find yourself in this situation, contact us — we can help you plan the best way to work around it.
Final Thoughts
Batch numbers matter!
For the best results, always install wallpaper rolls from the same batch — and when in doubt, order an extra roll at the beginning to avoid colour matching problems later.
