What preparation do I need to do on my walls before wallpapering?

As with most things in life, preparation can be the difference between success and disaster—and wallpapering is no exception! Taking the time to get your walls in top condition makes installation easier, improves adhesion, and prevents issues like peeling or bubbling down the track.

Clean the surface – Wipe down walls to remove dust, grease, and any marks. If your walls have been painted, use a gentle cleaner to remove any built-up residue.
Fill any imperfections – Patch up any holes or cracks with a suitable filler, then sand smooth to create an even surface.
Prime if needed – If your walls are highly absorbent or previously painted in a dark color, applying a primer or wallpaper undercoat will give you the best results.
Use a wallpaper size – If using paste-the-paper wallpaper, applying a wallpaper size helps the adhesive grip better and allows for easier adjustments during installation.
