Which wallpaper paste should I use?

Choosing the right adhesive is essential for a good wallpaper installation.

The paste affects how easy the wallpaper is to hang, how well it bonds to the wall, and how long it lasts.

At The Inside, we sell an all-round, mould-resistant, paste flake, which can be mixed at different thicknesses to suit the type of wallpaper you are hanging.
This is suitable for most wallpapers we sell — including non-woven, traditional paper, and vinyl-coated wallpapers.
Some wallpapers, especially specialist murals or premium brands, may specify a particular type of adhesive in their installation instructions.
In those cases, you should always follow the manufacturer's instructions exactly.

How to Mix Flake Paste Correctly

  • Always add the flakes to the water, not the other way around.
  • Mix in slowly while stirring — don’t dump the whole packet in at once.
  • Stir thoroughly and let it stand for the full time stated on the packet before use.
  • Follow the mixing instructions on the packet carefully and adjust the water ratio to suit your wallpaper type.
  • (Heavier or coated wallpapers may need a thicker mix; lighter papers usually need a thinner mix.)
  • You’re always better to be too thick than too thin — you can add more water later if needed, but you can’t fix paste that’s too runny.

Important Tips

  • Don’t use old leftover paste — it can lose bonding strength.
  • Always follow the wallpaper manufacturer’s installation instructions — especially for murals and designer brands.
  • Use mould-resistant adhesive in kitchens, bathrooms, or laundries.
  • Store any leftover flake paste in a sealed container and use within a few days.
